Insularity is a constant presence in the Cuban consciousness, even in its unconscious. There are always opposing sentiments; on the one hand, feeling that we islanders have something special that sets us apart from the rest and anchors us to the island, and on the other hand the need to leave the island, the belief that everything “from outside” is better.
This, combined with the peculiarities of the sociopolitical-social system in Cuba, exacerbate these sentiments surrounding our condition as islanders.
The photographs in this project seek to transmit some of these emotions through images taken between the land and the sea, right where the island ends.
